Maplewood Richmond Heights School District - St. Louis, MO

Service learning and community involvement is the name of the game at Maplewood Richmond Heights High School, where English Teacher Patrice Bryan is still flying high with the news of winning the 2012 Follett Challenge. "Winning was so incredible! It is allowing us to focus on building literacy in the new Research & Design space and acquire resources that more accurately reflect what we do. The Follett Challenge is the reward and the recognition that we're on the right path."

Berwick Academy - South Berwick, ME

Berwick Academy’s Innovation Center, operated by the school’s librarians/media specialists, offers an opportunity for students to pursue a mentor-supported area of study about which the student holds a strong interest or curiosity, explained Darcy Coffta, a librarian/ media specialist at the Academy. “The Follett Challenge opened so many doors for us; we were able to reach a greater audience and share our program, and get the resources we needed to grow the program.”

Seneca’s unique One Book, One School program successfully infused a love of reading in students and staff by selecting a popular book and mirroring the book’s story line by dividing the school into sections, competing in challenges, and earning points throughout the school year.
